Our
daughter, Candace Pattee, called recently to tell me she sat through a whole
month of sermons this past January (she and her husband Jason enjoy a
congre-gation on Ft. Rucker Army Base in Alabama). "Why did the pastor talk for
FOUR Sundays on money?", she lamented.
"Because its a joy to talk
about," I responded. "You talk about it all the time. You went here and you
went there, you bought this and you bought that." What did the pastors on the
army base want you to hear about money? She thought for a minute before she
said, "Money cant keep you safe and warm. Money doesnt ground you
in life-giving decisions. God does those things. Family does those things. And
yet people spend a lot of time pursuing money." And that was painful HOW?, I
asked her.
